Genre: Contemporary
Summary:
In this book its a continuation of Parts. The little boy starts to learn more about the different things that people say. When he trips and breaks his toy his mother says "oh that must have broke your heart" when he hears this he takes it literally that his heart is broken and that everything is going to break. Or when he hears his next door neighbor say "it will crack you up" he gets worried that his parents are going to crack up literally while talking to their neighbor. It goes through the book of this 5 year old hearing the different sayings that people say and him taking it literally.
Who would benefit from this book?
I think that little children would. Children are intuitive to what the adults say and so they may take it literally when a parent or some one says something like "hold your tongue".
What problems might this book cause?
I don't think it woud cause any. I think it would educate children about some of the things that adults say, because in the book the parents once again clarify for their child that they don't mean those things literally.
My reaction:
I thought it was a super cute book. I never really thought too much about the sayings that we say and so this book put it into perspective that children could take it literally.
